The Missouri State University Ice Bears, a Division 1 member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, announce the team has qualified to play in the ACHA Division 1 National Championship tournament held March 8 to 13, 2018 at the OhioHealth Ice Haus in Columbus, Ohio.

The top 17 ranked teams — including three through auto bid — make up the 20-team field that will compete for the 2018 national championship.

The Ice Bears finished the regular season with 22 wins, 13 losses, three overtime losses and one shootout loss to finish at No. 17 in the final ranking period. This marks the highest regular season position in the organization’s three-year history at Division 1 play.

Missouri State will face the University of Arizona in a preliminary game on Thursday, March 8 at 8:45 p.m. The winner will face Minot State, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, on Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m. Games will be streamed live (click Broadcasts on the Men’s D1 tab on achanationals.com) with Steve Casson calling games involving the Ice Bears.

The Ice Bears will hold its second annual “Skate with the Ice Bears” and fantasy hockey game on Saturday, March 3rd at Mediacom Ice Park. It’s part of Fan Appreciation Night.

Fans can skate for free with the team and fantasy hockey players will join the Ice Bears in a scrimmage game following the skate. Register by emailing r.ashlock@missouristatehockey.com. This is the second consecutive season the ACHA is holding all five of its division’s championships (men’s and women’s) in the same location. The tournament is hosted by the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL, and OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rinks at the OhioHealth Ice Haus, in Columbus. This will be the seventh year of the 20-team format. The University of Central Oklahoma won the 2017 Division 1 championship in Columbus.

Ice Bears’ Hockey Alumni News

Earlier this year, the Alumni conducted their annual game held at Medicom IcePark in Springfield. It was a great turnout, great game, and even better seeing all Alumni skating with the Bear head on their chest yet again. The fans showed up for this free admission game to see the Ice Bears who had converted them into hockey fans and some even players.

The fans and players were treated to a special appearance when former General Manager and Founder Stan Melton arrived to catch up with former players and team associates, and then ended up in the scorekeepers table to announce live play-by-play for the fans and players. We all appreciate your continued support and love for this sport.

To the Alumni in attendance, it was your hard work in the classroom, in the community, and on the ice that made this organization what it is today. Even more important, your continued support away from Springfield is what helps grow Missouri State University Hockey into a nationally and internationally recognized and respected Hockey program. Thank you and look forward to seeing more familiar faces next season.

Ice Bears and Express Team Up for 2nd ATOP Charity Game

For the second-consecutive year, the Missouri State University Ice Bears will play a preseason charity hockey game with the Springfield Express, a Junior A hockey team in the Western States Hockey League, on Wednesday, September 7 at 7 p.m. inside Mediacom Ice Park.

Once again the rosters of the Ice Bears and Express will be mixed together forming teams that will play an exhibition hockey game with proceeds to benefit both organizations and the Assistive Technology Outdoors Professionals (ATOP) Sled Dogs hockey team based in Springfield.

It’s the second time both clubs have united efforts with the goal of fostering a good alliance between both organizations and drawing fans to the sport of hockey. Proceeds for ATOP last year topped $1500.

An entrance fee (to be determined) will be charged at the door. Half of the proceeds will go to the ATOP Sled Dogs; the remainder will pay for expenses and then split between the Ice Bears and Express.

Don’t miss a chance to see your  Ice Bears’ team before they hit the ice for the 2016-17 regular season against Augustana the weekend of September 9-10. Spread the word and let’s pack the rink for ATOP on September 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Mediacom Ice Park.
